Although there are many uses for spray paint, due to people writing graffiti here, there and everywhere, there are laws in place covering the sale of spray paint to young people. Graffiti can create a run down atmosphere in towns and villages and often it can lead to more crime being committed.
Most of you will have heard of Anti Social Behaviour or ASBOs. In 2003 an Act was passed by the Government which gives people in the community more power to stop people buying airguns, dropping litter, damaging others peoples property and many other things.
One of the things the Act includes was preventing the sale of spray paint to people under the age of 16. This was put in place to hopefully cut the amount of crimes of vandalism involving graffiti. If a shop sells spray paint to anyone under the age of 16, even if they look older, they could receive a fine of up to £2500.
However, if you are caught writing graffiti in the area you can be given a fine of £50 that has to be paid within twenty one days. Better to leave the spray painting to the professionals.
