Youth Assessors Team

South Tyneside are working with Durham and Gateshead to develop a joint Youth Assessors Team. Young people are being trained by their co-ordinator using Participation In Action training course, which is an accredited course aimed at enabling young people to access and evaluate the quality of provision in South Tyneside.

The young assessors will be visiting anywhere where young people go: ie libraries, leisure centres, youth centres/projects and the council, to name just a few, and will talk to young people about the quality of service provided to them. Services will be awarded bronze, silver or gold awards depending on their achievements but will receive recommendations to develop their work in relation to the needs of children and young people.

Many thanks to our colleagues at Thurston Outdoor Centre for looking after us so well.

We have a team of 10 young people aged 13 - 17 years who will be starting their assessements in March/April 2008 following their training.
