Many people may be bullies and not even know it!
- People can pass on a nasty text about someone
- They could laugh at an unkind comment
- It's easier to accidentally bully by email or text because you're not doing it to someone's face
Think about your actions
- Why have you done it and how has it made you feel?
- Bullying can be used as a way of being popular, or to make you look tough and in charge.
- Some bullies do it to get attention, or to make other people afraid of them.
- Others might be jealous of the person they are bullying.
- They may be being bullied themselves.
- If you are sometimes a bully, try to find other ways to make yourself feel good.
- It's best to treat others the way you would like to be treated yourself. Think about how would you feel if you were being bullied? People who are bullied can feel lonely, very unhappy, scared and worried.
How to make it right:
- Admit what you are doing - it is very brave to admit you are doing wrong.
- Make a promise to yourself to stop - share your promise with someone who can support you.
- Say sorry - apologise to the person you've hurt and try to find a way to make up for it like including them in games.
- Give yourself praise - it takes a brave person to own up to being in the wrong.
- Be part of the bigger picture - stick up for others that are being bullied.
What should I do if I know someone else is being bullied?
- It can be very hard to tell someone to stop bullying.
- The bully might be someone you're scared of or might be a friend.
- If you can't tell them to their face, tell a teacher or an adult who will be able to talk to them.
- If you see anyone else being bullied at school, please tell someone about it when you get a chance and won't be heard.
- People who are being bullied need friends so if you can help someone who is so unhappy please do.
