Bullying

The Anti-Bullying Steering Group

We are a group of professionals who make sure that stopping bullying is a main concern for everyone in South Tyneside.

We give training to schools, support Anti-Bullying Week, work in schools to help teachers and young people sort out bullying problems, and we are there for parents, teachers and young people to talk to about any bullying worries. We also ask for your views and experiences in a questionnaire we send to schools.

We will be raising awareness and organising activities around this year's national theme 'Stay safe in cyberspace'. For many young people the internet and mobile phones are a positive part of their lives but sometimes they can be used to cause pain and upset.

So what's happening?

  • Particip8 and the Staying Safe Children's Group invited schools, projects and clubs to come up with ideas for a short film about the effects of cyber bullying and ways to deal with it.
  • A 'Dragon's Den' day was held, where groups pitched their film ideas.
  • The top 10 ideas were given the chance to work with a film company to make their films.
  • A Film festival/Oscars evening will be happening in Anti-Bullying Week to showcase the films
  • An activity pack including the 10 films will be produced and sent to schools
