We the people of South Tyneside pledge to take action against bullying, we will:
The number of pledges given so far is 4040.
Bullying will only stop if we take action together. We want every child, adult, school and community organisation to make a pledge to take action against bullying. Our campaign looks at the idea of the person who sees bullying happening, but does nothing to help. This can include adults, parents, teachers, the community and other young people who don't take action to tackle bullying.
Our key messages are:
The anti-bullying pledge has been written by the Friends Against Bullying Group. The aim is to get as many signatures as possible to support our campaign against bullying.
The FAB Awards YOU event took place at South Shields Town Hall on Friday 19th November and was a huge success. Friends Against Bullies (FAB) group presented the award ceremony themselves, rewarding 7 schools, 1 community group and South Tyneside Councils Anti-Bullying Steering group for the fantastic anti-bullying work they have done in the borough. Councillor Jim Foreman, Lead member for Children and Young People presented the FAB group with their own individual awards for their huge contribution to anti-bullying work in South Tyneside.
At 5.30pm everyone made their way outside South Shields Town Hall to count down to the final signature count of the 'Action Against Bullying' pledge. A massive 4040 signatures (still rising) were collected and revealed by projecting the figure on the side of the Town Hall.
If your school has already done or plans to do anti-bullying work, please let us know what you are doing by emailing aimee.port@southtyneside.gov.uk.
Friends Against Bullying Group (FAB) have been working very hard since the launch of the anti bullying campaign spreading the anti-bullying message.
They kicked off the summer by marching with the Cookson Parade with their brightly coloured banners and t-shirts. The group performed some fantastic drama freeze frames that really grabbed the attention of the passing public, who were also invited to watch short anti-bullying films created last year by children from South Tyneside. The event was covered by the media and interviews were featured on BBC radio Newcastle.
